PACTOLUS AND CONVEDIA COLLABORATE TO DEVELOP COMPREHENSIVE IMS CARRIER SERVICES INFRASTRUCTURE
IMS Integration Initiative Underway to Simplify Fixed/Mobile Convergence, Service Feature Innovation and IP Services Migration
BOSTON, Mass. and VANCOUVER, Canada, December 7, 2005 -
Pactolus Communications Software Corporation, the leading developer of Class 4/5 SIP-based IP voice services and Convedia Corporation, the leading supplier of IP media servers, today announced that the two companies are entering an initiative to accelerate and simplify service provider deployment of SIP-based, IMS-compliant services. The partnership will enable rapid, economical deployment of media-rich services and features for applications based on Pactolus' uniquely-flexible RapidFLEX Service Creation Environment and its SIPware™ Carrier Services Suite, leveraging Convedia's market-leading IP multimedia processing. Over the last four years, the two companies' solutions have been deployed in numerous service provider networks such as Primus Canada.
The initiative now underway will help simplify both media-rich feature innovation, and the delivery of services of all types of fixed and mobile network topologies, driving increased subscriber usage and retention. The emerging IMS cross-network service model fosters subscriber adoption of advanced calling features, customizations, unified contact databases and calling groups, which extends the usability of carrier services and promotes subscriber loyalty. The tight integration of these two powerful network services elements will expedite and sharply simplify carrier support for the real-time integration of rich media from multiple globally-distributed sources into both 'bread and butter' applications such as conferencing and collaboration, and emerging high-growth entertainment applications.
"Convedia and Pactolus consistently rank among the most respected, innovative and broadly-deployed names in VoIP-enabled telecommunications," said Dave Horton, President, CTO and founder of Pactolus. "Our joint IMS development further enriches our ongoing relationship, and simplifies service provider IMS migration and expansion."
IMS was developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Program (3GPP) to facilitate a common approach for building services in both fixed and mobile environments. It enables network operators to converge voice, video and other multimedia services to deliver innovative and compelling bundled services for consumers and businesses. The Convedia/Pactolus IMS-compliant solution enables the delivery of services including prepaid calling, audio conferencing, voice messaging, service-integrated operator assistance, multi-service bundles, and the creation of IMS-enabled service extensions and features via Pactolus' flexible Service Creation Environment.
"Pactolus and Convedia were among the first companies to whole heartedly embrace SIP and the access agnostic, vertically layered approach to enhanced services that 3GPP's IP Multimedia System so well articulates," noted Grant Henderson, Co-founder and Executive Vice President of Convedia. "By embracing best-in-class products from companies like Pactolus and Convedia, fixed and mobile service providers are better able to realize the true promise of IMS.
Pactolus is a pioneer in developing IP-based service architectures and the first services vendor to introduce IMS-compliant services. Pactolus has implemented IMS across its RapidFLEX Service Delivery Platform and SIPware Services using an open software environment that includes SIP, SOAP, XML, HTTP and other IP-based technologies in an extensible framework. IMS extensions have been added using the Pactolus RapidFLEX SDK, allowing the current software environment to embrace new protocols required for IMS support such as DIAMETER. This enables service providers to take advantage of the rich set of existing, commercially proven capabilities in any wireless network.
Convedia is the recognized market leader in IP Media Servers that provide the Multimedia Resource Function Processor (MRFP) in 3G/IMS packet networks. Convedia media servers deliver the MRFP media processing essential for a broad range of converged IMS services including push-to-talk, ringback tones, mobile video services, unified messaging, speech controlled services, and multimedia conferencing. Mobile application developers can integrate Convedia's broad MRFP capabilities into their IMS solutions using SIP, H.248, XML or other standards-based control protocols, resulting in accelerated feature support and time-to-market. Additional benefits for mobile network operators include cost savings, multi-service support, improved reliability, and industry-leading scalability.
