PACTOLUS ACHIEVES 1 BILLION MINUTES OF SIP-BASED PREPAID VOICE TRAFFIC IN CARRIER NETWORKS
Leading SIP-based Solutions Provider Reaches Industry Milestone with Carrier-grade Availability
Ausin, TX and Westborough, MA, March 23, 2004 -
Pactolus Communications Software Corporation, a leading provider of SIP-based voice services for next generation networks, announced today that its SIPwareT Prepaid Calling Card Service has generated over 1 billion revenue-generating voice call minutes in carrier networks around the world. Utilizing SIP, the emerging standard for delivering IP voice services, Pactolus solutions allow telecommunications carriers and service providers to drive down the cost and accelerate time-to-market of high-value services. Pactolus has already received prepaid industry recognition from Intelecard News as "One of the Top 10 Companies to Watch in 2004."
Pactolus achieved this milestone in 15 carrier networks while approaching "5 9's availability" (99.999% uptime) across its installed based behind various PSTN-to-IP media gateway products that work in conjunction with a SIP-enabled softswitch. This high level of reliability allows the carriers to deploy what is essentially a "prepaid service node" enabling network-wide services built upon IP-based components, giving them the scalability and flexibility they need to compete in a very competitive marketplace.
"Pactolus continues to prove that SIP is a highly viable technology for carriers looking to add revenue-generating prepaid services to their new or in-place networks today or to migrate from their legacy TDM switch-based prepaid platform", says Dr. Judy Reed Smith, CEO of telecommunications research consultancy Atlantic-ACM. "The prepaid calling card market is shifting towards voice over IP (VoIP) technologies, whether it is in the core of a network to cost-effectively transport voice traffic, or as a vehicle to deliver services to traditional card users on the PSTN. Many major carriers have recently announced their intent to make strategic investments in IP-based network elements, and Pactolus is well positioned to help service providers take advantage of these technologies."
